Spot all the references!
There's the NES system, of course, and game cartridges (they're playing TMNT II)... TMNT soda... a nod to the comic Turtle Soup... and a Mirage comic.
Other references of the era (some coinciding with TMNT milestone years): posters of Anthrax State of Euphoria, Ghostbusters (1984), Lost Boys (1987) and Total Recall (1990)... plus Santa Cruz Skateboards and Ratbones logos, and of course lava lamps! No self-respecting lair would be complete without lava lamps.
Donnie by the way isn't just playing the guitar; he's experimenting with feedback noise. That's a discreet nod to my favourite ever drawing of him, by Jim Lawson and Keith Aiken in Mirage TMNT #49 where he's sat on a log, observing the patterns of chaos in the river.
As for the Superman reference, that's for our friend and real-life superhero Matt Jackson. Gone but never forgotten.
